(May 20, 2021) 8:25am Update - We finished strong after a long day of restoration work. Yesterday morning, we started with just over 3,500 without power and currently there are 322 members without power. We appreciate your patience and encouragement as our crews continue to restore power to all members through the day.

(May 19, 2021) 9:45pm Update - At this time, there are 175 total outages with 502 meters out, 46 of which are related to the broken pole from the major traffic accident on HWY 281 in Orange Grove. With safety as their top priority, NEC line crews will work as quickly as possible to restore power to all members. This will be the final update for the night. We will resume posting updates in the morning to our Facebook page and website. We appreciate your patience and thank you for being a loyal NEC member. It is our pleasure to serve you and we hope you and your family stay safe.

(May 19, 2021) 5:45pm Update - We're down to 193 outages affecting 583 meters at this time. Rest assured, our linemen will continue to work until all outages are restored. Thank you for your continued patience.

(May 19, 2021) 3:00pm Update - Currently, there are large portions of Orange Grove without power. 427 members are out due to a major traffic accident on HWY 281, 185 members are out due to down power lines, and 137 members near West Lake are out due to a carport being blown into the power lines. Rest assured, our NEC linemen are on the job. Thank you for your patience as our employees work to get the job done quickly and safely. We hope everyone is staying safe.

(May 19, 2021) 8:20am Update - High winds and lighting damaged poles, power lines, and equipment to interrupt power for over 3,500 NEC members early this morning. NEC crews have been hard at work this morning and NEC has all available contract crews in the field supporting the service restoration effort. The damage impacted all areas of NEC’s distribution system, so outages remain scattered across the system’s 8 county area. Members are cautioned that additional storms and flash flooding are in the forecast for today and through the rest of the week. And flooding is making it difficult for our linemen to access some areas. Many of these outages are individual outages, which take time to restore because linemen have to visit each individual location to make repairs. Those with household members on life support should continue to plan for possible extended outages. Currently, there are 123 outages affecting 3,582 members. We will continue to post outage updates here on our Facebook and the NEC website at nueceselectric.org. Thank you for your patience.

(May 19, 2021) 6:30am Update - Current severe weather conditions and lightning storms have caused scattered outages across the NEC service area. Crews are working as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power to all members. There are currently 876 members without power.

Tips to remember:

- Report outages on SmartHub or by calling 1-800-632-9288.

- Do not approach downed power lines or poles. They could still be energized and are dangerous.

- Do not drive through flood waters. Turn around, don't drown.

- Unplug appliances and devices to prevent power surges to them.

- Keep refrigerators and freezers closed to help maintain the temperature.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We hope everyone stays safe.
