Types of NEC Memberships

NEC is committed to meeting the needs of NEC member-consumers. NEC Members are classified in two ways based on the services received- as “wires members(W)” or “non-wires members(N)”. Both types receive the same benefits as members of NEC.

• If you have any accounts with NEC that receive NEC delivery or “wires” services- like our meters and power lines and you report your outages to us- then you are a “W” member or “wires” member.
• If you only have NEC service(s) that rely on another company’s meter and power lines, but use NEC’s Retail Division as your power supplier, then you are an “N” member or “non-wires” member.

NEC Delivery (wires) Services

• NEC provides power delivery services in parts of 8 counties along the South Texas Coastal Bend. NEC provides these services within a defined territory certificated by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (see map). These services include metering, power line construction and maintenance, billing, and lighting devices.
• New Delivery Service
• NEC Lighting – Security & Street
• NEC Customer Choice - within its delivery service area, NEC has opened its area to competitive power suppliers so NEC wires members can shop for the best prices and the best terms for their electric service needs. The list of available providers is available any time at NEC’s offices, in your monthly edition of Texas Co-op Power magazine, online (link to provider list), or call us at 1-800-NEC-WATT and we will mail you the current options list.
• Customer Protection – NEC is the customer protection authority in the NEC wires area. If you have a concern about your chosen power supplier we need to know so that we can ensure all NEC wires members receive all of the benefits of a fair and competitive power supply market in our area.

NEC Retail Services

NEC non-wires members have another Texas company that provides their delivery services, but choose the NEC Retail Division as their power supplier. NEC wires members MAY choose NEC Retail Division. However, it’s important for NEC wires members to understand that they DO NOT have to choose NEC Retail to be assured of quality delivery/wires services from NEC.
