Update 1/17/05:

NEC held an informational meeting today at ERCOT for REPs interested in NEC's transition into retail electric competition in Texas. A follow-up meeting is set for February 9th at ERCOT. Click here to obtain the meeting/presentation handout.

Update 1/10/05:

On January 7, 2005 NEC and AEP TCC filed a proposal with the PUCT to eliminate the dually certificated distribution service areas shared by the two utilities in South Texas. For more information, click here.

Update 12/16/04:

ERCOT has declared that NEC TDSP has successfully completed all success criteria for its Electric Choice Pilot. NEC will continue to operate as a Pilot pending the decision of the PUCT regarding territory changes between NEC and AEP TCC and its transition into full competition.

Update 9/13/04:

All competitive retailers who have tested to serve consumers in the NEC service area MUST execute a Delivery Service Agreement (DSA) with Nueces Electric Cooperative. Current CRs must deliver a completed and signed DSA by 5:00 pm on September 28, 2004. If not, the CR will be removed from the provider option list, provided to NEC members, on October 1, 2004 and will remain off the list until such time as the DSA is completed. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Update 9/1/04:

The Power To Choose website has been designed for the IOU market model. As a result, and to avoid consumer confusion, NEC has full responsibility to provide consumer education information to its members regarding customer choice. The following options are available to all eligible CRs:

1. On the Nueces Electric Cooperative Website: www.nueceselectric.org

  • NEC currently provides a list of eligible provider options with sign-up phone numbers and website/e-mail information.
  • NEC will make available online files containing the Electricity Facts Label, Terms of Service Document and printable enrollment application for any CR, or will provide hyperlinks to such information. If your CR would like this service, the information should be sent to Sarah Fisher for online posting.

2. In the NEC office in Robstown, TX (709 E. Main Street)

  • NEC will provide a limited, table display of CR enrollment information/kits for walk-in customers in order to simplify the NEC member's shopping experience. Please send printed materials to the attention of: Sarah Fisher, Nueces Electric Co-op CR Relations, P.O. Box 1032 or 709 E. Main Street, Robstown, TX 78380. CRs are welcome to inspect this table and/or to deliver or restock materials during normal business hours. Monitoring of material restocking needs is the responsibility of the CR. Any questions should be addressed to Sarah Fisher.
  • If a CR provides the printed enrollment form on the in-office display table, NEC is willing to provide fax service for new members who choose your CR. This is offered for member convenience. NEC will offer to fax the member's enrollment application to your CR, then return the original form to the member. The member will then be instructed to contact your CR to confirm receipt of fax, once he/she returns home.
Update 7/14/04:

Nueces Electric Cooperative will conduct a customer choice pilot beginning August 16, 2004. Pilot participants have been identified and will be notified in late July of the pilot and will receive "shopping" options and instructions in mid-August. Switches may be effective no earlier than September 1, 2004. For more information contact NEC CR Relations.
