Within Texas' competitive retail
electric market, there
are two models. One is an "investor-owned utility (IOU) electric choice
model" and the second is an "electric cooperative and municipal system
(co-op/muni) electric choice model." There are significant differences
between the two models. The model that most CRs are familiar with is the
IOU model.
Nueces Electric Cooperative, as one of the first co-ops to open it's area to competition, is working to educate both our members and Competitive Retailers about the co-op/muni model difference. The main differences are detailed in the Delivery Service Agreement (.doc) that all CRs must complete prior to offering their products to our consumers and in the Access Tariff which may be obtained from the PUCT Central Record Division.
